Sheriff Looper Game — Top-Down Western Horror

Play the HTML5 build above, or open the official itch.io page by kulu (kulurc). This is an unofficial Sheriff Looper gameplay and walkthrough page. The game file is not mirrored here. It is not an all-endings guide: kulu has not published how many endings exist.

    What is Sheriff Looper?

Sheriff Looper is a short top-down western horror action-adventure. You are the appointed sheriff of Espacio. The itch pitch tells you to protect the townsfolk with a Loopin' Lasso: herd runaway bulls, catch vermin, and then a job the page censors. kulu compares the loop to Pokémon Ranger, warns of mild body horror of animals and people, and says a focused run is about 30 minutes.

The project is the last game kulu released in 2025. It started as Looper's Roundup, a GMTK Game Jam 2025 entry about catching a farmer's bulls, then grew for about five months into this story game. It is pixel art, made in Godot, tagged adventure / action / horror, and the itch page says no generative AI was used. Windows and macOS downloads sit next to the browser build.

kulu also made Hungry Lamu and Untime. Let's Plays often place Sheriff Looper next to Hungry Lamu. On the Godot release thread a player still asked how the two connect, so this page treats a shared universe as a fan reading, not as a subtitle kulu printed on the itch page.

    Controls

kulu's page says mouse and keyboard are strongly recommended, and fullscreen for the web build. If a line of dialogue will not clear — players got stuck on the opening "hold 'er steady" box — open Options at the start. A commenter pointed out that the hotkey list is in there.

The jam page for Looper's Roundup, the game this one expands, prints the lasso explicitly:

    • WASD — move
    • Hold right-click — spin the lasso and charge it
    • Drag left-click — draw the loop

Use that as the baseline, then match it against Options. The full game adds dialogue scenes, a jail, a horse ride, and mines on top of the roundup. Some bulls take more than one loop. In the jam, the black bull attacks instead of waiting to be caught. Charge the spin before you commit to the draw. This is capture and control, not a traditional fight, so do not treat the rope like a gun you can mash.

Tips that match how the game is built

    • Precision over speed. Line the loop up. Rushing the mouse is how captures miss.
    • Make space first. Distance gives you time to read where the target is going.
    • Learn the pattern. Some targets are a timing problem, not a race.
    • Walk the town. Tasks and story beats are tied to places. If a scene stalls, you are often missing a person or a spot, not a hidden combo.
    • Leave the sound on, and use fullscreen. kulu recommends fullscreen for the browser build, and the horror is carried by atmosphere.
    • Plan on a short run, then a second pass. The developer’s window is about 30 minutes. A replay is how missed interactions show up. Players who struggle with the canyon or a later fight report much longer first sittings.
    • Save the twist. Story surprises are the point. The videos below include full playthroughs and a story explanation; use the explanation after you finish.

    How to play without softlocking

The town is one continuing area, not a level select. Talk to people, finish the job in front of you, and backtrack when a new interaction opens an earlier door or conversation. A few sequence breaks are already documented by players:

    1. Tutorial barrels. Wait until the father tells you to lasso the barrels. Doing it early can freeze the prompt. One report was on a 2560×1080 screen; another player called the freeze a resolution issue. If the edges of the picture look wrong on an ultrawide, windowed or a more standard resolution is worth a try.
    2. Jail with Blue. Blue is the bandit in the cell. Break the barrel only after you have spoken to him. Breaking it first is a reported softlock that dumped a player out of the run.
    3. Shiny badges. They are optional, and a player who nearly collected the set said they were useful. Grab them when a room is safe instead of ignoring every glint.
    4. Health. The bar is short. One player asked to respawn at half health because a respawn into the next projectile was an instant death. kulu called that feedback valid. After a death, do not sprint back into the same shot.

The stretch players complain about most is the horse ride toward the canyons and a later kidnapping fight. There is no difficulty slider on the itch page. Comments describe a strict lasso hit while projectiles are coming in. Retry the set piece, shorten your charges, and do not spend the whole health bar on the trash before it. Reaching the mines takes a while even on a clean run; that is pacing, not a hidden wall.

    Story, without the last page

The public pitch is a sheriff, a town, and a kidnapping. Players name the sheriff's wife Marie. Let's Play titles talk about getting her back. Itch comments call the ending unexpected, and someone who watched Kubz Scouts asked kulu about a different outcome for Marie. That request is not a published second ending. What is confirmed is a short narrative moved forward by sheriff tasks. What is not confirmed is the ending count, any alternate-ending requirements, or a branch list. Finish the sitting before you open the story video.

    Where to watch

The eight players embedded on this page were checked on YouTube and show up for Sheriff Looper searches (gameplay, full playthrough, itch.io, kulu, walkthrough, horror game, ending, and let's play): CaptainSauce, Joe Bart Games, ManlyBadassHero, Kubz Scouts, Drageam’s full walkthrough, Palaros’s no-commentary full game, GamerSault’s story explanation, and kulu’s devlog. A similar game by the same developer, Hungry Lamu, is linked rather than embedded so these slots stay on Sheriff Looper. Other itch-linked runs include Niafloa and a Japanese VOICEROID playthrough by 荒巻. These are other people’s videos, not reuploads of the game.

    If the frame is blank

The browser game on this page is the data-iframe URL from kulurc's itch page: https://html.itch.zone/html/15969245/WebGL/index.html. Itch can change that path when the author uploads a new build. If the frame stays empty, use the itch page, the embed page, or the widget. Do not download a repacked HTML5 zip from a random site.

A very unique game. It really brought my inner cowboy out. The horror was just right, and the lasso gameplay reminded me of Pokémon Ranger.

Awesome from beginning to end. A few fights frustrated me, but that was my own skill. I enjoyed the story, the music, and the style.

I thought I had downloaded a nice wholesome game… until the incident. Solid pixel-art western, even if the lasso takes practice.
